I like to think that biology drives us more than we would like to think. I'm powerless to beautiful women. They shut down my brain, not completely though, they leave me enough thought to go nearly insane. I'm getting to the age where I'm supposed to crank out some kids and settle down. Hopefully not in that order. My major reservation about kids is that they're going to suffer as much as I did growing up. I know raising a kid is a huge responsibility I just can't imagine how huge, my lack of imagination worries me.

My theory is that I'm interested in the future because my kids are going to live in it. That completely contradicts bioglogy which shuts down my brain in the presence of beauty. Nature wants me to have kids, my mind wants me to question whether having a kid in the world we live in is a good idea. Maybe the secret to happiness is becoming comfortable with the fact that we're going to have to fight our primitive urges for the rest of our lives if we're to live a decent life.

I read that our moods are a result of our thoughts. That makes sense. I'd always assumed that they were one in the same. Moods are fuzzy emotional feelings, thoughts are structured, unspoken words. They're different. A bad mood leads to more bad thoughts but on the up side, Positive moods lead to more positive thoughts. Waking up on the right side of bed is apparantly pretty damn important.

Ahh, I'm a curious animal. Sun, IBM etc. are focused on selling systems that decrease the cost of doing business. Anything that can be outsourced will be outsourced. It makes sense to choose a career path that can't be commoditized. IT is the wrong path. My business degree makes me feel a little bit better. Is efficiency killing jobs or are recessions like rapid evolution. The comet that killed off the dinosaurs allowed us to evolve. Whether or not we're good for the planet isn't the issue. It's funny to think that someday everything will be B2B. No customers except for other businesses.

Makes sense to me. We have a nation of states. If he's right then states are small enough to be local. That's BS in the case of California. California is bigger than most countries, so it's going to have to go. The above quote all depends on the definition of locality. I used to race cars on my computer on the Internet and we had a community, locals in our own weird world but geographically separate. My grandkids might one day say, "I live in Democratia" Their neighbor might live in Greenparty Land.

Maybe there could be a new bill of rights which takes human rights and education into account. Kids would have to spend a year helping out in thier communities if they were to graduate. We are living in the dark ages, even with full color camera phones. Technology changes so fast yet we assume it's a direct reflection of our social progress. Unfortunately ethics, humanity, evolution don't follow Moore's Law

If we do become one united global country I propose it should be named pangea. It's just kind of catchy.

I'm always hearing about the WTO, IMF, World Bank, etc. and never really knew why there are always thousands of protesters throwing eggs and starting riots. So I read a few articles I found on google news... Turns out the major economic powers have a lot Of say which makes sense considering their respective GDPs (if not populations), but they aren't willing to give up any of their power to help developing countries. Progressive taxation doesn't apply to tariffs I guess. It seems kind of strange that we pay millions to our peanut farmers, making PB&J samiches prohibitively expensive, just to keep our farmers happy? Farming is soo 1800s, it's time for our cowboys to buy some herds of Aibos and hook 'em up to the plows, let them run the farms even. It's crazy that I pay $5(mostly in federal taxes) for skippy so some guy in Iowa can afford fancy new boots. We should be setting up scholarship programs. "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Unskilled" The MDLYBGUtbU Scholarship could be funded with the millions of dollars we spend on peanut subsidies and would give the farmers new skills leading to a more competitive US workforce. Plus the foreigners would hate us just a little bit less.

I think America is in a unique position heading into the global future but we're too afraid of non-american culture and sacrifice for the greater good to take advantage of that position. The US is Microsoft with tanks. Everybody needs us but they hate it when we push them around. MS gets away with it because they pay Billions in taxes to the US government. There is currently no Government to govern the U.S. We laugh at the UN. We own the WTO. Linux is to Microsoft as China is to the US. A billion educated people will overthrow or make irrelevant the Chinese government in less than 100 years. If they're smart China will pal up with a bunch of other developing nations and completely ignore the US. Then we'll cut all of our trade barriers and start playing fair but it will be much too late for a country run by leaders without vision.
